The theme of the 2025 Portland High School prom was Mama Mia. The event took place on May. 9. 2025 at the Glastonbury Hills Country Club. The night was full of students dancing, smiles, and students looking their best.

The event was reported to be a smashing success with many students saying that they had an incredible time, and that it was even better than last year.

“Even the people you wouldn’t think would dance were dancing,” said senior Bryan Velasquez-Diaz. In an interview, Diaz said that this year’s prom was an amazing experience;  expressed how he enjoyed the different venue and this year’s different DJ. He emphasized the importance of music and how it can make or break the mood of the students. Diaz believes that this year’s DJ was a great one, which helped more students get on the floor and dance, and encouraged them to stay longer. Krista Larson, a class of 2026 class advisor, agreed with Diaz’s thinking by saying how in the past the majority of students leave right after prom court is announced; however, that was not the case this year. Larson believes that this year was very successful saying “I asked another couple if they were glad they came and they responded with overly enthusiastic and positive responses.”

Prom Planning Process

Traditionally, the junior class plans the prom, for both the junior and the senior students. This process involves the junior class advisors and a voluntary prom committee of students. The class of 2026 prom committee and class advisors were reported to have been very organized and efficient. The class advisors started the planning process during the end of the Class of 2026’s sophomore year. This early planning helped establish the prom date, venue, budgeting decisions, amenities, as well as the students on the prom committee. Hailey Bustamante, a member of the prom committee, said that the prom committee worked very well together and was very organized. She explained how after every prom committee meeting, the group would make an agenda for the next meeting to keep on track of what was completed and needed to be done. “We always knew our next step was going to be to plan forward,” said Bustamante.

Organization and overall experience are reportedly the two most important factors in planning a successful prom, which this year’s committee and advisors did very well.
