Stephanie Hogan

Stephanie Hogan is a long term sub at Portland High School, subbing for Kelly Stevens who teaches regular Biology, IPS, and Human Biology. Hogan’s first day was very memorable here at PHS. It involved coming to meet the teachers here at Portland to learn about the classes that she'll be subbing for. 

However, when Stevens brought Hogan to meet her future students, the entire school went suddenly went into a lockdown for five hours.

After this memorable ordeal, Hogan had to rush up to UConn, where she is currently a graduate student, to give a presentation for one of the course she was taking.

Hogan has 15 years of experience in the biology field and managed the wild trout fishery for the state of California.

She got into teaching because she's always been a lifelong learner and she's so incredibly passionate about teaching biology to as many students as she can. Hogan loves teaching her two daughters about biology and having them identify the different types of mushrooms on their walks. 

Hogan says she's enjoying her time in Portland saying everyone has been so welcoming and the students are very respectful. She says that the second she walked into the school she felt welcomed. “From the first day I walked into this school I felt like I belonged.” 

This is her first year of teaching and she is thriving in this environment. 

She is more confident teaching biology compared to Human Biology. She says it's also fun to push herself and learn about the human body as she teaches it. She also enjoys anything outdoors that includes gardening, fishing, hiking, camping She also values her family and loves to cook. 

Portland High School is truly going to miss her when she finds her next adventure next year.
